When the marriage procedure is carried out from the Macau side

①Request and obtain a “family register copy” from the registered domicile office of Japanese people.

②Obtain a “Certificate of Eligibility for Marriage Requirements” from the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong.

* There is no Japanese Consulate in Macau, and the Consulate General of Japan in Hong Kong also serves.

④ 5 days public notice period (confirmation of marital disability).

⑤ (When the married party is a minor under the age of 18) Permission from Macau parents or guardians / Macau court.

⑥ Marriage permission from the Citizen’s Registration Bureau (expiration date is 90 days with permission to conclude a marriage)

⑦ Marriage conclusion (marriage ceremony)

When the marriage procedure is done from the Japanese side

① Obtain the documents of Macau people at the Macau government office.

② Submit the following documents to the municipal office in Japan.

  1. Certificate of Eligibility for Marriage Requirements (with Japanese translation)
    * There is a high possibility that the Chinese Embassy will not be able to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility for Marriage Requirements for Macau people. In that case, it is possible to substitute by submitting the “Statement / Marriage Record” (with Japanese translation) issued by the Civil Registration Bureau of the Macau Special Autonomous Region Government.
    * “Statement / Marriage Record” is issued as one document. The creation method is as follows.
    1. Apply for issuance to the Civil Registration Bureau of Macau
    2. (If Macau people are in Japan) Have a family member apply on your behalf

    3. (If a Macau person is in Japan) Ask a Macau lawyer to apply
